Written by Brian A. Atkinson, It's a Grand Old Flag traces the development of the West Perth Football Club, from its humble origins in 1885 as the Victorians, playing on the Perth Esplanade or Wellington Square, through seventy-eight years at Leederville Oval, to its present location at HBF Arena, Joondalup.
Prior to coming to West Perth in 1968, Graham (Polly) Farmer MBE had established himself as perhaps the greatest player ever in Western Australia and possibly Australia. He was a winner of three Sandover Medals, a Tassie Medal, three Simpson Medals and was an All Australian on three ocassions. He is also an inductee to the AFL Hall of Fame and WA Football Hall of Fame. As captain coach he led West Perth to Premierships in 1969 and 1971.
